Who are we?
The Centre d’appui à la petite enfance de la Nouvelle-Écosse (CAPENÉ) was established in 1992 under the name Centre provincial de ressources préscolaires (CPRPS). In 2020, to better reflect our expanded role in the francophone early years sector, a rebranding campaign was launched beginning with a new, more representative name.
The CAPENÉ currently serves two main clienteles;
We offer an extensive lending library for member centres and programs which includes books, toys, games, puzzles and puppets as well as an Ellison Die Press service for members wanting a little something extra for their craft corners. We also offer a variety of French professional development workshops, including the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework training and Pyramid Model training.
In 2003, the CAPENÉ opened its first Family Resource Centre for Acadian and Francophone families living in the Municipality of Clare. Since then, four satellite centres have opened offering a variety of programs to families in Tusket and surrounding areas, Halifax regional municipality, Isle Madame and Chéticamp. These centres offer a variety of programs and services based on the needs of individual families and communities.
Since its inception, the CAPENÉ has grown to become a center for excellence, knowledge, training and resources for early childhood education and development in the Acadian and Francophone communities in Nova Scotia
